Up in Yorkshire..
We finally got started about 3pm yesterday in a whipping right to left wind. Absolutely lovely day, quite sunny and warm in spite of the wind. We separated into two teams of four and shot against five teams assembled from the local clubs in an uncoached match (each shooter does their best and their scores are aggregated together to make a team score). I think we finished 3th and 5th but we were within something like 8 points to the winning team with our 3rd place team.
So, all in all a heck of a lot of fun. Their was a selection of GB team members participating so the level of competition was quite high, even with the slightly tricky wind.
I had a couple of execution flaws in both 300 and 500 and that cost me 4 pts (these were 75pt matches) and I finished quite happy with my wind reading, my rifle, and in general my performance.
Here's a snap I took of some teammates just waiting for their time to go up to the 300yd firing line.
Here's the view of some of the other teams shooting at 500yds. In the background, you can just see the mount that is in the firing zone of the rifle range. Keen eyes can make out the old paths along which steam sledges operated to extract stone from the mount. This is where the stone for Nelson's Column in London was quarried.
